Continuous work on sectoral glossaries and their digitization is underway at our company.

For the past 4 years, we have been working on an English-Georgian and Georgian-English dictionary. Based on practical needs, we paid particular attention to the processing of technical terminology (Energy, Architecture, Construction).

Lexicography and Translation Activity

To ensure high-quality translations, it is crucial to use relevant sectoral and specialized dictionaries and analyze ongoing processes in the language. Special attention is paid to this within Delta's translation group. The sources for compiling dictionaries in Delta's translation group include both already published academic dictionaries and phrases and terms taken directly from translation practice, which have been frequently encountered over the past years in translations performed for various private and state organizations. A number of terms are taken directly from practice and cannot be found in academic dictionaries; these are the result of the art of translation and the process of establishing the contextual meaning of a term. The motivation for our lexicographical activity is precisely this: to present terms that appear in academic dictionaries relatively late, and which achieve full term recognition and normative status relatively late. This issue is particularly acute in nations where lexicographical activity is less recognized as a field of scientific endeavor, and consequently, support for this activity is also low. The advanced approach in modern lexicography involves grouping terms by their frequency of use, providing the reader first with the terms that have the highest frequency of use, which in turn relies on the analysis of the modern language corpus. Our translation practice naturally reflects this approach, as we deal with the most in-demand texts, the need for whose translation has arisen from the clients.
